He was probably born in Lakenham (now North Carver).1 He was the son of Deacon Johnathan Shaw and Phoebe Watson.1 Jonathan Shaw married as his first wife Mehitabel Pratt, daughter of Benajah Pratt and Persis Dunham, on 29 December 1687 in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, now Massachusetts.1 Jonathan Shaw married as his second wife Mary Richards on 16 November 1715 in Plympton, Province of Massachusetts Bay. She was the widow of Benjamin Darling.1,2 Jonathan Shaw died on 18 January 1729/30 in Plympton, Province of Massachusetts Bay.1
