     John Otis was born in 1581 in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. He was the son of Richard Otis.1,2,3,4 He married as his first wife Margaret (?) in 1608 in Glastonbury, Somerset, England.1,2 John Otis married as his second wife Elizabeth Whitman, daughter of Abiah Whitman and Alice (?), on 31 May 1654 in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, now Norfolk County.1 John Otis died on 31 May 1657 in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, now Norfolk County.3,5,4

James Thomas
     James S. Thomas was born on 25 May 1802 in Maryland.1 He married Susan Hackney, daughter of Aaron A. Hackney and Mary Klans, on 27 November 1837 in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri.2,1 James S. Thomas died on 26 September 1874 in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, at age 72.1 He was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, He is buried in block 168, lot 2158.1
     He arrived in St. Louis in 1825 and opened a small bank.1 His first wife was a daughter of Curtis Skinner of St. Louis.1 In 1838, he entered a banking partnership with L.A. Benoist, husband of his second wife's sister.
