David Stockwell was born between 1693 and 1695 in Ipswich, Province of Massachusetts Bay.3,1 He was the son of William Stockwell and Sarah Lambert.4 David Stockwell married Mercy Emmons, daughter of Peter Emmons and Martha Eaton, on 5 February 1718/19 in Gloucester, Province of Massachusetts Bay.
Richard Field notes the following:
The last will and testament of Jacob Bray, Sen., of Gloucester, MA which is dated 23 Jan 1713/14 mentions both David Stockwell and Mercy Emmons, Mr. Bray and his wife were very elderly, and he was probably very ill. They had no children, but they had David Stockwell and Mercy Emmons living in their household and caring for their needs. David was of age and is named in the will to receive 10 pounds within 2 years after Jacob's death. Mercy "Emons" is a minor and is named to receive 50 (or 15?) shillings when she reaches the age of 18 years (1718) provided she continues to live with and assist Mrs. Bray.
Apparently it was at the Bray household where David and Mercy met, and they were married at Gloucester, MA on 5 Feb 1718/19 which was probably after the death of Mrs. Margaret Bray.3,1,5,2
David Stockwell died in 1743 in Sutton, Province of Massachusetts Bay.3,1
