He was a lawyer..5 He and Isabelle B. Pallen appeared on the 1880 Federal census of St. Louis, Missouri, enumerated 7 June 1880. Isabelle's mother Janet Cochran was also in the household. There were also four children in the house but the names are hard to read. The oldest might have been Irwin's son from a previous marriage, and then three children from his marriage to Isabelle.3
