William M. Jones1

     William M. Jones was born on 6 September 1813 in Tazewell, Tazewell County, Virginia.1 He was the son of Charles Jones and Phoebe Workman.1 William M. Jones married Rebecca Jane Morris in 1833.1,2 William M. Jones died on 13 February 1913 in Rulo, Richardson County, Nebraska, at age 99.1
     He and Rebecca Jane Morris appeared on the 1850 Federal census of Liberty, Johnson County, Iowa, enumerated 24 August 1850 along with eight other children.3 William M. Jones and Rebecca Jane Morris appeared on the 1900 Federal census of Rulo, Richardson County, Nebraska, enumerated 7 June 1900. They were living with their son Lewis, his daughter and his nephew.2

     Rebecca Jane Morris was born on 28 January 1810 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John and Margaret Morris from New Jersey.1 She married William M. Jones, son of Charles Jones and Phoebe Workman, in 1833.1,2 Rebecca Jane Morris died on 12 October 1909 in Rulo, Richardson County, Nebraska, at age 99.1

     Phoebe Workman was born on 12 May 1793 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Abraham and Margaret (Leitner) Workman.1 She married Charles Jones on 11 November 1811.1 Phoebe Workman died on 4 September 1873 in Sonoma County, California, at age 80.1
     She appeared on the 1870 Federal census of Analy, Sonoma County, California, enumerated 2 September 1870 in the household of Rebecca and William Stetson (probably her daughter).2

     Henry Bartholomew was born in 1607 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was the son of William Bartholomew and Freswede Metcalf.1 Henry Bartholomew married Elizabeth Scudder, daughter of Thomas Scudder and Elizabeth (?), in 1640 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England.1,2 Henry Bartholomew died on 22 November 1692 in Salem, Province of Massachusetts Bay.1,3 He was buried in Charter Street Burying Ground, Salem, Province of Massachusetts Bay.4
     He immigrated on 7 November 1635.4 He became a freeman on 17 May 1637.4 He was a merchant and town clerk.4

     Elizabeth Scudder was born on 12 May 1622 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England.1 She was the daughter of Thomas Scudder and Elizabeth (?)1,2 Elizabeth Scudder married Henry Bartholomew, son of William Bartholomew and Freswede Metcalf, in 1640 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England.1,2 Elizabeth Scudder died on 1 September 1682 in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony, at age 60.1,3,2 She was buried in Charter Street Burying Ground, Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony.
     She immigrated, departing from England circa 1640 in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony, now Essex County, with her parents Thomas Scudder and Elizabeth (?).4

Compiler's notes: Much of the information available on the Scudders is confused. Many on-line sources have Elizabeth Scudder Lathrop and her cousin Elizabeth Scudder Bartholomew the same person - a physical impossibility. That they both had brothers named John has added to the confusion.
