Absolom Wilson1

b. October 1812, d. 10 July 1896
     Absolom Wilson was born in October 1812 in Woodrow, Sumpter County, South Carolina, now Lee County, He was the son of Robert & Sarah Wilson. Robert named Absalom in his will of 18 September 1833.1,2 He married as his first wife Margaret Howell, daughter of Redden Howell and Elizabeth Davis, in 1848.1 Absolom Wilson married as his second wife Sarah Brooks after 24 October 1864 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, This was the date of the marriage bond.3 Absolom Wilson died on 10 July 1896 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, at age 83.1 He was buried in Warren Cemetery #1, Upper Glady Fork Road, Candler, Buncombe County, North Carolina.2
     Absolom also went by the nickname Apps. Absolom was also known as Abner.4 He and Margaret Howell appeared on the 1850 Federal census of Buncombe County, North Carolina, enumerated 31 July 1850 along with Margaret's son George Howell Warren.. He was listed as A. B. Wilson.5 Absolom Wilson and Margaret Howell appeared on the 1860 Federal census of Hominy Creek, Buncombe County, North Carolina, enumerated 21 July 1860. Their children Calvin, Tabitha, Foster, Elizabeth, David, Fidilis, Althaline, Isaphoenia, Zeddick and Laura were listed as living with them.6

In the 1960 Federal Census Slave schedule of NC, he was enumerated with 14 enslaved persons.7 Absolom Wilson and Sarah Brooks appeared on the 1870 Federal census of Hominy Creek, Buncombe County, North Carolina, enumerated 8 August 1870. Their children Emily, John and Hily were listed as living with them. Along with his children from his first marriage, Calvin, Foster, Elizabeth, David, Fidilis, Althaline, Isaphoenia, Zeddick and Laura and her children from her first marriage, Thomas McFee, George McFee, Andrew McFee and Sarah McFee.3 Absolom Wilson and Sarah Brooks appeared on the 1880 Federal census of Upper Hominy Township, Buncombe County, North Carolina, enumerated 19 June 1880. Their children Emily, John, Hily, Caroline, Josephine, Charles, Conner and Corra were listed as living with them.8

Margaret Howell1

     Margaret Howell was also reported to have been born on 8 September 1821.2 She was born in 1823 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.1 She was the daughter of Redden Howell and Elizabeth Davis.3 Margaret Howell married as her first husband James Warren before 1842.4 Margaret Howell married as her second husband Absolom Wilson in 1848.1 Margaret Howell died on 1 May 1863 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.1,2 She was buried in Warren Cemetery #1, Upper Glady Fork Road, Candler, Buncombe County, North Carolina.4
