Neil Gardner was born on 24 June 1841 in Brooke, Province of Canada, Colony of Canada, now Ontario.1 He was the son of Archibald Gardner and Margaret Livingston.1,3 Neil Gardner married Ingeborg Regina Evensen, daughter of Henrick Evensen and Serena Torjusdater, on 10 January 1863 in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory.4 Neil Gardner died on 6 July 1906 in Spanish Fork, Utah County, Utah, at age 65.1,5 He was buried on 10 July 1906 in Spanish Fork City Cemetery, Spanish Fork, Utah County, Utah.6
He migrated to Utah in the company led by his father Archibald Gardner.7,8 Neil Gardner appeared on the 1860 Federal census of Spanish Fork, Utah Territory, in the household of his parents Archibald Gardner and Margaret Livingston.9 Neil Gardner and Ingeborg Regina Evensen appeared on the 1870 Federal census of Spanish Fork, Utah Territory, enumerated 1 August 1870. Their children Neil Livingston and Margaret were listed as living with them.10 Neil Gardner and Ingeborg Regina Evensen appeared on the 1880 Federal census of Spanish Fork, Utah County, Utah Territory, enumerated 8 June 1880. Their children Neil Livingston, Margaret, Brigham Evenson, Ida Regina, Annie, Delila Rebecca and Ellen Janet were listed as living with them. His brothers and sister Syrenus, Serena and Henry were also in the household. Neil was a miller.11 Neil Gardner appeared on the 1900 Federal census of Spanish Fork, Utah County, Utah, enumerated 11 June 1900. His children Margaret, Annie, Delila Rebecca, Sarah Edna and Effie Estella were listed as living with him.12
